So today is a day for starting things that I've been thinking about for a while. There's only so long you can let things sit in your head before you have to actually do something about it and there is nothing better than a deadline to get things off the ground. Hence the beginning of designs for a new commission today for Curiosity Creators AND drum roll .... Curiosities first blog post!

I've been reading other people's blogs and books on blogs and now with all that I considered during that time forgotten I will just get on with it and see how the posts turn out over time. Feel free to give any thoughts and comments... be kind!

The new commission is for DART's creative people and places event which is suddenly in a few weekends time, 9th - 11th May. The idea for the commission was set quite a while ago but the actual start of research began last week with a photo walk through the town of Doncaster.  This I could have done alone, but things are always best when shared and so a 12yr old son was bribed into coming along under the pretext of lunch out.

The town was sat under a beautiful blue spring sky the day we visited it and the eclectic mix of architecture provided wonderful inspiration for the designs that have been made today. All the buildings photographed had different things to offer - hidden faces, precise art deco designs, art nouveau stylised curves side by side with the modern 1960's distinctive form. All of which have been used to make small designs that are now ready so I can begin creating the first of a series of  light box commissions for the DNweekend festival.

Curiosity creators will be lighting up an empty shop window for the festival, With two light boxes being made by Curiosities and one or two lights being made by the community to sit side by side over the weekend.

Thinking the next one is going to be a Hull based one from a certain lovely school.... no bribes needed with that project!
